National accreditation bodies
An accreditation body is who accredits the certification bodies in a country — and, just as important, who runs the official register where a certificate can be checked. One record per body, each linking to that register.
What ILAC MRA / Global ACI recognition means
Every body in this backbone is a signatory to the ILAC Mutual Recognition Arrangement (ILAC MRA), the mechanism under which accredited bodies' certificates and results are recognised by other signatories. On 1 January 2026, IAF and ILAC merged into a single organisation, Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated (“Global ACI”). Existing IAF MLA and ILAC MRA marks and references remain valid through a transition period running to December 2028; the Global ACI MRA mark takes their place from January 2029. Existing accreditations continue to be recognised throughout — the new arrangement carries forward the scopes and recognition already in place, not a reset.
