GRS (Global Recycled Standard) is a scheme owner's certification programme: Recycled Content Supply Chain Certification. GRS is owned by Textile Exchange (a US-based non-profit, tax ID 33-1034726). Certification body approval is scope-based: the same body may be approved for only certain links of the supply chain. It applies to yarn, fabric and garment manufacturers, and textile suppliers making a recycled-material claim.

What is this programme?

What triggers an assessment?
- A recycled-content claim will be made on the product.
- A brand or retailer requires GRS.
- A role is held in a supply chain stage that processes recycled material.
What does it not replace?
- It is not the same as GOTS; GOTS certifies organic fibre content, GRS certifies recycled content.
- It is not to be confused with OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 (harmful substance testing); the two cover different claims.
