What is this programme?
IFS is a family of schemes with separate modules for food, logistics, brokerage and related activities. Partner certification bodies require ISO/IEC 17065 accreditation for the relevant IFS standard.
Who is it for?
Food manufacturers, logistics providers, brokers and related supply chain actors.
Who issues the certificate?
The certificate is issued by a partner certification body accredited under ISO/IEC 17065 for the relevant IFS standard.
What to verify before you accept it
Establish which IFS module the buyer is asking for and the product scope it has to cover, then confirm the body is accredited for that module.
What triggers an assessment?
- A buyer or retailer names a specific IFS module.
- You supply European retail chains.
- Food safety assurance is required in a broker or logistics role.
What does it not replace?
- There is no single "IFS certificate"; which module applies is what decides.
- It is not interchangeable with FSSC 22000 or BRCGS; you obtain the one that is asked for.
