What is this programme?

CanadaGAP is a food safety certification programme scoped to Canada only. Its scheme owner is CanAgPlus. GFSI recognition applies only to Option B, C and D of the programme, not to every CanadaGAP option.

Who is it for?

Fresh produce and horticulture businesses operating in Canada, where a Canadian buyer or retailer requires CanadaGAP.

Who issues the certificate?

The certificate is issued by a certification body operating under the CanadaGAP programme owned by CanAgPlus.

What to verify before you accept it

Confirm the operation is within Canada, confirm which CanadaGAP option (A, B, C or D) applies, and confirm whether GFSI recognition is required — only Options B, C and D carry it. This verification round did not confirm the accreditation standard applied to CanadaGAP certification bodies — check that directly with CanAgPlus before relying on it.

What triggers an assessment?

• A Canadian buyer or retailer requires CanadaGAP.
• GFSI-recognised certification is required and the operation is based in Canada.
• The operation is fresh produce or horticulture within Canada.

What does it not replace?

• It is not a global scheme; CanadaGAP applies only within Canada.
• Not every CanadaGAP option is GFSI-recognised — Option A is not; only B, C and D are.
