What is this programme?

OEKO-TEX is a certification family of seven sub-labels: STANDARD 100, MADE IN GREEN, STeP, ECO PASSPORT, RESPONSIBLE BUSINESS, LEATHER STANDARD and ORGANIC COTTON. OEKO-TEX reports more than 35,000 certified companies.

Who is it for?

Manufacturers, dye houses and garment makers across the textile and leather supply chain, from yarn to finished product.

Who issues the certificate?

Testing and certification are carried out exclusively by the association's independent textile and leather research and testing institutes across Europe and Japan — not by OEKO-TEX AG. There is no classic ISO/IEC 17065 + IAF accreditation chain, so the word 'accredited' is not used.

What to verify before you accept it

First establish which sub-label is being asked for (STANDARD 100, STeP, MADE IN GREEN), then confirm the identity of the independent member institute that carries out the test or certification.

What triggers an assessment?

• A brand or retailer names a specific OEKO-TEX sub-label.
• A harmful-substance test claim (STANDARD 100) or a production-site sustainability claim (STeP) will be made.
• A role is held in a processing stage anywhere from yarn to finished product.

What does it not replace?

• It is not accredited third-party certification; it carries no ISO/IEC 17065 accreditation chain.
• It does not substitute for an organic supply-chain certification such as GOTS; STANDARD 100 is a harmful-substance test, not an organic-fibre claim.
