Food and Agriculture

The word "food" is not a sufficient trigger for a recommendation on its own. Your physical role in the chain and the scheme your buyer asks for are what decide; different retailers may require different schemes for the same product.

The questions we ask before producing a result

  1. What do you produce, and do you package it?
  2. What is your role in the chain: primary producer, processor, warehouse, broker, caterer?
  3. Which country or which retailer will you sell to?
  4. Do you make a halal, organic or similar claim?
  5. Which scheme does your buyer ask for by name?

Most commonly confused in this field

ISO 22000 and FSSC 22000 are not the same

ISO 22000 is an ISO standard; FSSC 22000 is a separate certification scheme owned by Foundation FSSC. Which one is needed usually depends on your buyer's requirement and your product category.

A halal accreditation body does not issue certificates

Halal accreditation bodies accredit conformity assessment bodies. The certificate is issued by an independent body inside that accreditation scope, and that body's full scope has to be verified separately.

Office services are not a food chain role

A trader dealing in food but handling no physical product is assessed separately from a business with a physical role in the hygiene chain.

Non-ISO programmes common in this field

These are not ISO standards; each has its own scheme owner, issuing body and rules. Whether they are candidates is decided by activity and buyer requirement.
