ISO 22000 and FSSC 22000 are not the same
ISO 22000 is an ISO standard; FSSC 22000 is a separate certification scheme owned by Foundation FSSC. Which one is needed usually depends on your buyer's requirement and your product category.

Food and Agriculture
The word "food" is not a sufficient trigger for a recommendation on its own. Your physical role in the chain and the scheme your buyer asks for are what decide; different retailers may require different schemes for the same product.

Most commonly confused in Food and Agriculture
A halal accreditation body does not issue certificates
Halal accreditation bodies accredit conformity assessment bodies. The certificate is issued by an independent body inside that accreditation scope, and that body's full scope has to be verified separately.
Office services are not a food chain role
A trader dealing in food but handling no physical product is assessed separately from a business with a physical role in the hygiene chain.

- USDA Organic certification (NOP) (United States) — Applies if you make an organic claim about a product you produce or handle.
- Food Traceability Rule (FSMA 204) (United States) — Applies to facilities that manufacture, process or pack a food on the Food Traceability List. The rule's own compliance date is 20 January 2026; Congress has directed FDA not to enforce before 20 July 2028; a proposal to move the date to 20 July 2028 is not yet final.
- Food business registration (United Kingdom) — Applies to food production and processing businesses.
- Labour provider licence (Fair Work Agency) (United Kingdom) — Applies to the business supplying labour into a regulated sector (agriculture, horticulture, shellfish gathering, food processing or packaging) — not to the food business itself.
- Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) (European Union) — Applies if you place packaged food on the EU market. General application began 12 August 2026; some obligations phase in later (e.g. recyclability performance grades from 2030).
- Safe Food for Canadians (SFC) licence (Canada) — Applies if you import food, export food, or prepare food for interprovincial trade — including interprovincial or export slaughter of food animals.
