What is this programme?
A supply chain certification covering the processing and trade of organic textiles. GOTS-approved certification bodies conduct on-site audits and issue the certificate.
Who is it for?
Yarn, fabric and garment manufacturers, dye houses and organic textile traders.
Who issues the certificate?
The certificate is issued by a GOTS-approved independent certification body; on-site auditing is mandatory.
What to verify before you accept it
Confirm your own role in the supply chain, and confirm the certification body's scope covers that role.
What triggers an assessment?
- An organic textile claim will be made on the product.
- A brand or retailer requires GOTS.
- A role is held in a production stage processing organic fibre.
What does it not replace?
- It is not the same as GRS/RCS (recycled content) or OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 (harmful substance testing); these are not interchangeable.
- It does not substitute for organic farming certification.
