What is this programme?
Certification for the palm oil supply chain. Under RSPO standards, only certification bodies holding ASI accreditation may certify.
Who is it for?
Food, cosmetics and chemical manufacturers processing palm oil and its derivatives.
Who issues the certificate?
Only a certification body accredited by ASI (Assurance Services International) may issue the certificate.
What to verify before you accept it
Check whether palm derivatives are present, whether you take physical ownership, and which supply chain model applies.
What triggers an assessment?
- Palm oil or a derivative is used and an RSPO claim will be made.
- A buyer imposes a sustainable palm oil requirement.
- Physical ownership or processing of palm product is involved.
What does it not replace?
- At low volumes membership and certification can be separate; which is needed depends on the supply chain model.
- It does not substitute for organic or fair trade programmes.
