What is this programme?
A voluntary ecolabel for defined product and service groups on the EEA market. The application is reviewed, and the licence granted, by the Competent Body designated by an EEA member state.
Who is it for?
Organisations placing products or services in a valid product group on the EU/EEA market.
Who issues the certificate?
The licence is granted by a designated Competent Body, not by an independent certification body.
What to verify before you accept it
A target EEA market and membership of a valid product group are preconditions; establish both, then which country's Competent Body receives the application.
What triggers an assessment?
- You place products on the EU/EEA market and will make an environmental claim.
- The product falls within a published EU Ecolabel product group.
- A retailer or public buyer requires an ecolabel.
What does it not replace?
- It is not a management system certificate and is not to be confused with ISO 14001.
- Food, drink, pharmaceuticals and some medical devices may be out of scope.
