Manufacturing and Industry

In manufacturing, the candidate set is decided not by the sector name but by what you make, who you sell to and your role in the supply chain. An automotive supplier and a general machinery manufacturer are not in the same set.

The questions we ask before producing a result

  1. What do you manufacture, and which sector does the product go into?
  2. Do you sell directly to an OEM or to an intermediate supplier?
  3. Which countries will the product be placed on the market in?
  4. Which certificate does the customer or tender require?
  5. Do subcontractors work on site, and at what level is the safety risk?

Most commonly confused in this field

IATF 16949 is not an ISO standard

It is an automotive certification scheme with its own rules. A general vehicle workshop, fleet operator or dealership is not automatically an IATF candidate; a direct OEM or automotive supply chain customer requirement is needed.

CE marking is not an ISO certificate

CE and EN 1090 are product and market conformity, not a management system certificate. The two operate under separate rule sets.

ISO 3834 is not a management system standard

It sets product and process quality requirements for welded manufacturing. The customer standard and the welding process are questioned separately.

Non-ISO programmes common in this field

These are not ISO standards; each has its own scheme owner, issuing body and rules. Whether they are candidates is decided by activity and buyer requirement.

  • IATF 16949
  • IAQG 9100 / 9110 / 9120 series
  • IECEx and ATEX/CE conformity
  • FSC and PEFC chain of custody
