What is this programme?

An award programme for beaches, marinas and tourism boats — three categories. It is an FEE programme, run through national operators. Which operator runs it, and against which year's criteria, depends on the country.

Who is it for?

Beach operators, marinas and tourism boat operators.

Who issues the certificate?

The decision is made by the programme's own authorised review and award mechanism, not by a certification body. The award is annual.

What to verify before you accept it

Being a tourism business is not sufficient: confirm the relevant coastal or marine facility type, and check that year's criteria.

What triggers an assessment?

• The business operates a beach, marina or tourism boat.
• Environmental and safety criteria will be met for a coastal facility.
• A recognised coastal award is targeted for tourism marketing.

What does it not replace?

• It is not a hotel certificate; an accommodation establishment itself is not a Blue Flag candidate.
• It is not the same programme as Green Key, and does not substitute for any national tourism licence.
