ACCREDIA is Italy's only ILAC MRA-signatory accreditation body listed in this backbone.
Accreditation in Italy is not something a body may simply declare for itself: an interministerial decree, issued under a law and directly bound to EU Regulation 765/2008, designates one single national body — and that designation can be limited, suspended or revoked.
How this body's authority is structured
One designated body, named in the Official Gazette
The Decree of 22 December 2009 (Gazzetta Ufficiale, Serie Generale n. 20, 26 January 2010) is titled 'Designation of Accredia as the sole Italian national body authorised to carry out accreditation and market surveillance activity'. Article 2(1) reads, in the original — the Gazette renders accents as apostrophes: 'Ai sensi dell'art. 4, comma 2 della Legge, Accredia, Associazione senza scopo di lucro dotata di personalita' giuridica di diritto privato, codice fiscale 10566361001, e' designata quale organismo nazionale italiano di accreditamento.' The decree does not stand alone: it is issued under legge 23 luglio 2009 n. 99, whose article 4(2) provides for designation of the sole authorised body by a decree of a non-regulatory nature, adopted together with the ministers concerned — hence an interministerial act.

The designation is conditional — it can be limited, suspended or revoked
Article 2(4) of the same decree sets out what happens if things go wrong. Where the Italian national accreditation authority ascertains that Accredia no longer holds the requirements prescribed for the role, or has committed a serious breach of its obligations, that authority 'adotta entro trenta giorni tutte le misure appropriate per limitare, sospendere o revocare la designazione' — within thirty days it adopts all appropriate measures to limit, suspend or revoke the designation — 'informandone tempestivamente la Commissione europea', promptly informing the European Commission. Note the trigger: the consequence follows a finding by the authority, not automatically. Supervision sits with the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (MIMIT); the 2009 decree names the then-Ministry of Economic Development, and decree-law 11 November 2022 n. 173 (converted, with amendments, by law 16 December 2022 n. 204), article 2(4), replaces that name 'a ogni effetto e ovunque presenti' — for every purpose and wherever it appears.

Accredia's own description of its role
On its own page headed 'Ente Unico di accreditamento', Accredia states: 'Accredia è l'Ente Unico di accreditamento nazionale', and describes itself as 'l'Ente designato dal Governo italiano ad attestare la competenza e l'imparzialità degli organismi e dei laboratori che verificano la conformità dei beni e dei servizi alle norme' — the body designated by the Italian government to attest the competence and impartiality of the organisations and laboratories that verify conformity. It is a recognised non-profit association operating under ministerial supervision. One thing that page does not do is cite the decree: the legal citation above is taken from the Official Gazette itself, not from Accredia's account of its own status.

Accredia's 'Banche dati' is, in its own words, 'la fonte per trovare i dati degli organismi e dei laboratori in tutti gli schemi e settori accreditati, e per verificare la validità dei certificati di accreditamento e il contenuto degli elenchi delle prove accreditate'. The public search mask needs no login and carries ten filters, one of which is unusual: 'Testo del pdf di accreditamento' — full-text search inside the accreditation scope PDFs. Neither the German (DAkkS) nor the Spanish (ENAC) register offers an equivalent. That filter answers the question a buyer actually has: not 'is this body accredited?' but 'is my specific process inside its scope?'. Historical accreditations sit in a separate database.

Signatory to all three international arrangements
Accredia states that, for all its accreditation activities, it is a signatory of the EA MLA (Multilateral Agreements), the IAF MLA and the ILAC MRA — its page lists the three as separate items rather than in one sentence. It also describes what signatory status buys: an accreditation mark from a signatory body, placed on a test or inspection report or on a conformity or calibration certificate, 'funziona come un passaporto sui mercati internazionali' — it works as a passport on international markets. EA's own directory of members and MLA signatories independently confirms Accredia's signatory status and its scopes, so this does not rest on the body's own account alone.
