What it is

SafeContractor is a health and safety pre-qualification assessment scheme. Its own page states: "We're a founding member and the largest provider of SSIP. So it's safe to say we know our stuff," and elsewhere: "SafeContractor is the largest Safety Schemes in Procurement (SSIP) provider to hold UKAS accreditation." These are the scheme's own claims about its size and accreditation; this research did not independently verify them against UKAS's own accreditation register.

SafeContractor's own page names the sectors it operates in: "Construction, Manufacturing, Facilities Management, Property, Retail, Hospitality, Leisure, Transport, Utilities, Banking & Insurance, Public Services." The page gives no proportional or statistical statement about which sector accounts for the largest share of its suppliers.

SafeContractor's operating company was previously named Alcumus SafeContractor Limited. A Companies House filing (company no. 07618138) records that name from 10 January 2018 until it changed to SafeContractor Limited on 10 November 2025. SSIP's own current members list registers the scheme only as "SafeContractor Ltd," with no mention of Alcumus.
