What is this standard?
Specifies requirements for a management system for records to support the organisation in achieving its mandate, mission, strategy and goals. Applicable to all types and sizes of organisation, and to groups of organisations sharing business activities.
Who is it for?
Organisations of any size, including commercial enterprises, government agencies and non-profits.
What triggers an assessment?
- Records policy, retention periods and responsibilities are undefined.
- There is a regulatory or audit obligation to produce records.
- Multiple organisations need a shared records framework.
What does it not replace?
- It does not substitute for archival legislation or retention obligations.
- It is not an information security management system.
