What it requires
Under s.29, the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs may set mandatory product safety standards for specific goods by Order in Council. s.30 then prohibits supplying, offering to supply, or advertising a covered good unless it complies. As of 2026-08-17, Product Safety New Zealand's own page lists 8 covered categories: baby walkers, bicycles, children's nightwear, toys for children under 36 months, cigarette lighters, household cots, projectile toys, and sunscreens — this list changes over time and should be re-checked against the source before relying on it.
